Our Journey to Healing

At Meadows and Minds, we believe in the transformative power of nature. Our mission is to enhance children’s mental health through engaging outdoor experiences that foster emotional resilience and growth.

Our Mission

Meadows and Minds is dedicated to supporting the mental wellbeing of children and young people, who are facing trauma, adversity, or emotional struggles. Through a client-centred approach, Meadows and Minds offers tailored, trauma-informed sessions that focus on each individual's unique needs.

Core Values

Our core values include empathy, connection with nature, a child-centred approach, community engagement, and holistic development, all essential for nurturing children and young people's growth.

Nature's Role

At Meadows and Minds the opportunity to experience Biophilia, happens during every session, the site is set in open farmland, and has access to a designated woodland area. Biophilia has many benefits for the children and young people: Studies have shown that exposure to nature can help children and young people develop a sense of connection and empathy for other forms of life, which can promote a sense of purpose and belonging in the world. Biophilic experiences can also have physical benefits, such as reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Being in nature provides the opportunity to allow children and young people to build confidence, take risks and make mistakes in a safe environment. It also helps develop independence and provide children and young people with a sense of freedom, absorption and fascination. Animal interactions Meadows and Minds also provides the opportunity to interact with animals during each session. Interactions with animals are beneficial to the emotional, cognitive, behavioural, educational, and social development of children and young people. In young people, the presence of and interactions with animals can fulfil attachment needs, ease anxiety and loneliness, improve self-esteem, facilitate emotional regulation, help build resilience and foster empathy . Interactions with animals has been associated with improved learning outcomes (e.g. literacy, verbal skills) as animals may stimulate curiosity, reduce stress, and provide a source of non-judgemental and unconditional support. .
